Qatar Development Bank Opens Advanced Manufacturing Hub (Manarat) for Next-Generation Factories
Qatar is giving its manufacturers a new place to plug into the future. Qatar Development Bank (QDB) has opened the Advanced Manufacturing Hub, known as Manarat, an industrial complex the bank describes as the first of its kind in the country.
Unveiled at a press conference on September 30, the hub is designed to help local factories adopt advanced technology and Fourth Industrial Revolution tools, including automation, artificial intelligence and data-driven production systems.
Manarat aims to gather several players under one roof: Qatar-based manufacturers, companies already deploying cutting-edge solutions, and international investors. By placing them in a single ecosystem, QDB hopes to encourage knowledge sharing and strengthen industrial value chains. Reports also indicate the complex offers 16 ready-built factory units for technology-focused producers. For overseas firms, it offers a possible gateway into Qatar’s manufacturing market.
Dr Hamad Salem Mejegheer of QDB called the launch a major step toward a more advanced, sustainable and competitive industrial base. He linked the project to the Qatar National Manufacturing Strategy 2024–2030, which seeks a bigger manufacturing contribution to non-hydrocarbon GDP, greater localisation of production and more specialised, technology-driven jobs. He added that advanced manufacturing strengthens Qatar’s standing as a regional centre for industrial innovation and could help its factories join the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry welcomed the move. Abdulla Ghanim Al-Maadeed, director of its Industrial Development Department, said Manarat advances the country’s push for a more modern, competitive industrial sector, and commended QDB and its partners for supporting both industry and the private sector.
Looking ahead, the hub is expected to help local producers move from traditional production models to smart manufacturing driven by automation, AI and data. Qatar News Agency reported that work is under way with the World Economic Forum’s Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains Center to identify sub-projects alongside QDB and the ministry.
Manufacturers and technology companies interested in joining can apply through QDB’s website, qdb.qa. Founded in 1997, the government-affiliated bank works to strengthen the national business landscape and diversify the private sector. The launch signals Qatar’s intent to turn industrial ambition into working, connected factories.
