Abu Dhabi DMT Launches Musaffah Innovation District to Drive Manufacturing, Food Production and Industrial Investment
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has launched the Musaffah Innovation District, a long-term strategic vision to turn one of the capital’s largest industrial services areas into a globally competitive destination for manufacturing, food production and industrial investment.
The announcement was made during LIVEX 2026 and marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Musaffah, which has long supported industry, manufacturing, logistics and trade in the emirate.
As Abu Dhabi continues to diversify its economy and strengthen its global competitiveness, the district will be reshaped into a future-ready hub designed to attract investment, enable business growth and open new opportunities across advanced industries. The initiative forms part of the Musaffah Redevelopment Programme, described as one of Abu Dhabi’s largest long-term investment programmes.
His Excellency Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of DMT, said Musaffah has been central to the emirate’s economic development for decades, and that the new district represents the next chapter in that journey.
According to Al Shorafa, the launch reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to strengthening its industrial economy through long-term planning, coordinated government delivery and strategic partnerships with the private sector.
The new district builds on earlier work by DMT, which in March began a study into the redevelopment of Musaffah in cooperation with relevant entities. The first phase focuses on revitalising the waterfront and creating expansive green spaces that improve public facilities while preserving the area’s identity. Plans also aim to deliver an integrated work-and-living environment that supports both economic growth and social well-being.
Improvements to key road corridors, including the Musaffah–Al Ain Road (E30) and Street 8, are also planned to ease traffic flow and support the efficient movement of commercial goods.
Officials say innovative solutions in infrastructure, transportation and smart urban design will help Musaffah become a global benchmark for economic zones. DMT has said further details on the project and its stages will be shared in due course
